The Ugandan government has cautioned the U.S. ambassador to the East African country to stop questioning the victory of President Yoweri Museveni in February's elections.
Government spokesman, Ofwono Opondo, said in a statement on Thursday that ambassador Deborah Malac had continued to dwell on alleged irregularities in the presidential elections.
He also said "some groups" in the U.S. and the European Union, including envoys in Uganda, continued to fund opposition elements to "cause illegal change of the government".
He challenged those questioning the electoral process to come up with evidence.
"We therefore wish to ask them to either adduce evidence or keep their peace for good." Opondo said, adding "Uganda's democracy is growing".
Museveni has been in power for over 30 years. He won this year's elections with 60.75 percent of the vote, followed by opposition leader Kizza Besigye on 35.37 percent.
Another candidate Amama Mbabazi, who took 1.43 percent, has complained of alleged fraud, but has lost a Supreme Court bid to annul the results. Endit
