Rwanda on Thursday paused once again to mark 22nd anniversary of the 1994 genocide in which more than one million people, mainly Tutsi and moderate Hutus, were killed.
A series of activities were taking place across the country, with the main commemoration being held at Kigali Memorial Center, where Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and his visiting Tanzanian counterpart, John Magufuli, laid wreaths on graves in which more than 250,000 victims were buried. GENEVA -- Growth in the volume of world trade is expected to remain sluggish in 2016 at 2.8 percent, unchanged from 2015, announced the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Thursday.

RAMADI, Iraq -- A total of 54 Islamic State (IS) militants were killed Thursday in bomb attacks on IS positions and clashes with security forces who extended control of a town in Iraq's western province of Anbar, a provincial security source said.
Security forces and allied paramilitary Sunni tribal fighters fought fierce clashes with IS militants, and made a new progress in their offensive to drive out IS militants from the town of Heet, 160 km west of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. KUALA LUMPUR -- The baby giant panda born in Malaysia last year was named "Nuan Nuan," which means "warm" in Chinese on Thursday, as a symbol of the warm relations between Malaysia and China.
The name "Nuan Nuan" was chosen from the 22,830 suggestions collected from a naming competition from November to December last year, said Malaysian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jarfar. (Malaysia-Panda-Name)
