76ers general manager steps down

Xinhua, April 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Philadelphia 76ers' Sam Hinkie had resigned as general manager and president of basketball operations, the NBA franchise confirmed on Wednesday after recording an NBA-worst record of 10-68.

"While we are disappointed in Sam's decision, we would like to sincerely thank him for his contributions over the past three seasons," Josh Harris, the 76ers' managing general partner, said in a press release.

"There is no question that Sam's work has put us in a very strong position to take advantage of numerous opportunities for an exciting future."

The appointment of Jerry Colangelo as the Sixers' chairman of basketball operations back in December led to speculation that Hinkie's job might be in jeopardy.

Bryan Colangelo, the son of Jerry Colangelo, was twice named NBA executive of the year, in 2005 with the Phoenix Suns and in 2007 with the Toronto Raptors. Endit
