Xinhua, April 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

One civilian was killed and another injured as a suicide bomber blew himself up in Kandahar city, the capital of the southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, provincial police chief Zia Durani said.

"A terrorist with explosive device on his body wanted to target security personnel, but before reaching the target, he was identified and detonated his suicide vest, killing a passerby civilian and injuring another," Durani told Xinhua.

The blast happened in the 5th police district of Kandahar city and the attacker was also killed in his blast, the official added.

Durani put the attack on the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban, but the armed outfit has yet to make any comments.

Kandahar, a former stronghold of Taliban militants, has been the scene of militancy over the past few years. Endit
