Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann will pay a state visit to China from Thursday to Saturday at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Born on Feb. 18, 1952 in Sumiswald, Canton of Bern, Schneider-Ammann graduated as an electrical engineer from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich in 1977, and obtained a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD Business School in France in 1983.

From 1990 to 2010, Schneider-Ammann acted as the head of Ammann Group, a Swiss mechanical engineering company.

Schneider-Ammann, elected to the Swiss National Council in 1999 and the Swiss Federal Council in 2010, has been the head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research since 2010.

In December 2015, Schneider-Ammann was elected as President of the Swiss Confederation for 2016.
