Production suspended at Australia's largest LNP project

Xinhua, April 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Production has been suspended at Australia's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, Gorgon, due to mechanical issues for up to two months.

Chevron who operates the project off the northwest coast of Western Australia, sent its first shipment of LNG bound for Japan just a fortnight ago.

The shipment was delivered to Chubu Electric Power in Japan on Wednesday.

The company issued a statement on Wednesday stating production had been temporarily halted due to mechanical issues with the propane refrigerant circuit on Train 1 at the plant site.

"Based on initial findings, the repair work is of a routine nature and all the necessary equipment and material is available on site," they said.

"A restart of the plant within 30-60 days is estimated at this time."

LNG is an essential fuel for power generation across Asia and natural gas is among the fastest growing segments of Chevron's energy portfolio. Endit
