Four suspected pirates killed in S. Nigeria: military

Nigerian troops operating in oil rich southen state of Bayelsa has killed four suspected pirates, an army officer said Tuesday.

Spokesperson for the Joint Military Force deployed to protect oil facilities in the Niger Delta, Col. Isa Ado, said the troops also freed an abducted soldier in the state.

He said the soldier, whose name was not mentioned, was kidnapped by pirates on March 24 along the Nembe waterways.

The spokesman added that the soldier was currently receiving medical treatment in Nembe, while efforts are underway to arrest the fleeing abductors.

Ado said the force also arrested medical personnel who are specialized in treating wounded militants and sea pirates after exchange of gun battle with the military. Endit
