More foreigners stay overnight in Icelandic hotels in 2015

Iceland saw a 27-percent increase in overnight hotel stays by foreign tourists in 2015, compared with the previous year, according to an annual report released by Statistics Iceland Tuesday.

According to the report, the total number of people paying for accommodation in Icelandic hotels was 6.5 million in 2015, a 19-percent increase compared with 2014.

Meanwhile, foreign tourists accounted for 86 percent of the people who stayed in Icelandic hotels in 2015, up 27 percent compared with the figure of the previous year. The number of Icelanders who stayed overnight in hotels decreased by 14 percent.

Foreigners who stayed overnight in Iceland in 2015 were mostly residents from Britain, the United States and Germany. Endit
