Some 30 militants had been killed amid cleanup operations conducted by Afghan forces in countryside within 24 hours, the country's Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

Up to 11 militants were injured and four armed insurgents were detained by the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) following the raids conducted in five of the country's 34 provinces, said the ministry in a statement which provides daily operational updates.

Eight members of the Islamic State (IS) militant group and a Taliban local leader named Mawlawi Jahangeer were among the killed, according to the statement.

The statement also confirmed the loss of 13 army personnel during clashes across the country over the same period.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants recently as spring and summer known as the fighting season is drawing near.
