Chinese enterprises have helped rehabilitate thousands of kilometers of railways and highways in Angola's post-war construction.
The important contribution made by the Chinese to the economic progress of post-war Angola was highly praised as the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Angola on Saturday marked the 10th anniversary of its establishment.
Addressing the event, Liu Guigen, chairman of the association, reviewed the achievements of member companies in the decade-old post-war reconstruction process in Angola.
These include the rehabilitation of a total of 2,800 kilometers of railways, thousands of kilometers of highways in all of the country's 18 provinces, 70 schools and 30 hospitals.
The first phase of the Kilamba Kiaxi social housing project, contracted by the Chinese Citic construction company, included over 20,000 flats in over 710 high-rise buildings and served as a showcase and model of the country's post-war reconstruction, Liu said.
The association, founded on March 17, 2006, currently groups 65 large-scale Chinese enterprises, mostly engaged in construction and civil engineering projects, and the companies signed a total of 56.7 billion U.S. dollars in various construction fields in the past decade, according to official statistics.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Luanda Cui Aiming commended the association for its contribution to the social and economic development of Angola.
Jose Manuel, deputy governor of Luanda, praised member companies of the association for performing social responsibilities, including providing more jobs to local people to help the development of the capital city and the country as a whole. Endit
