5 policemen injured in landmine blast by rebels in central India

Five policemen were injured by a landmine planted by suspected leftwing guerrillas in the central Indian state of Jharkhand Saturday, said local media.

The attack took place in Topchanchi town of the state's Dhanbad district, when suspected Naxalite rebels detonated the landmine against a security personnel patrol, the Indo-Asian News Service quoted Jharkhand police spokesperson S.N. Pradhan as saying in the state capital Ranchi.

The injured policemen have been hospitalized, with condition of two of the injured being serious, said the news service.

The Naxalite rebels are very active in Jharkhand, one of the poorest states in India. Endit
