1 killed, 11 wounded in PKK car bomb attack in SE Turkey

Xinhua, April 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

One person was killed and 11 others wounded in a car bomb attack by members of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) against a recruitment office in southeastern Turkey on Friday, private Dogan news agency reported on Saturday.

The car bomb exploded in front of the recruitment office in Kiziltepe town of Mardin province late Friday, killing one Syrian refugee watchman and wounding 11 people including two Turkish soldiers and three children, according to the report.

The blast also destroyed the office wall, and damaged more than 10 cars parking outside, said the report, adding that the wounded were sent to hospitals for treatment.

A two-year cease-fire between the government and the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) collapsed in July last year.

Turkish security forces have launched a major campaign against the group in the southeast of the country. The government has declared curfew in several districts of Diyarbakir province.

More than 300 members of Turkish security forces and thousands of PKK members have been killed since last July in confrontations inside Turkey and in northern Iraq.

The PKK, which has been waging a separatist war against Turkey since 1984, is listed as terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
