"Lin Dan has become a legendary player in badminton history, and I am also a fan of his. But I am hoping to trouble him in next month's China Masters," said Jasper Yu Woon Chai, Brunei's ace shuttler, during an interview here with Xinhua on Friday.
China Masters 2016, sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), will be held from April 19 to April 24 in Changzhou, China.
To make accumulation of world ranking points within the Rio 2016 Olympic qualifying period, China's national badminton team will reportedly send all prominent players on court.
Jasper Yu is going to face Lin Dan, China's World Number 2 player and two-time Olympic gold medallist, in the first round of the tournament.
"I was totally shocked when I know I'm going to challenge Lin Dan in the first round,"Jasper Yu said during his training session.
"Then comes the mixed feeling of worries and excitement. It might be my once-in-a-life-time opportunity to play against Lin Dan, which I don't know whether to consider myself lucky or unlucky."
Born in 1988, Jasper Yu started to play badminton at the age of 12.
Under a Chinese coach, the China-originated Bruneian had made rapid progress after entering the national team and soon became the sole player constantly representing Brunei in international tournaments. Enditem
