Business sentiment among large firms worsens in Japan: BOJ survey

Xinhua, April 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Japanese large manufacturer's business sentiment worsened in March from three months earlier due to the yen's comparative strength and a slowdown in demand for Japanese goods, the Bank of Japan (BOJ) said on Friday.

According to the central bank's Tankan survey, the confidence index dropped 6 points from December to plus 6, with the index for large manufacturers, which includes the service sector, down 3 points to plus 22, marking the first decline in six quarters.

A stronger yen and falling demand from emerging economies led to worsening sentiment, the bank's survey showed, and big businesses across all sectors covered are planning to cut expenditure by 0.9 percent this business year compared to last. Endit
