Macedonian armed forces constantly monitoring border: defense minister

Xinhua, March 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Macedonian southern border with Greece is well protected and the situation is being constantly monitored for refugees, Macedonian Defense Minister Zoran Jolevski said Thursday.

During his visit at the border near Gevgelija, Jolevski said extension of the state of emergency to the year-end and the deployment of troops at the border would require additional 8 million euros (9.11 million U.S. dollars).

Jolevski confirmed his participation at the coming Vienna meeting with counterparts from central Europe and the Western Balkans route, expecting an agreement over the future steps in the management of the refugee crisis.

On March 28, the Macedonian parliament voted to extend the state of emergency enforced in the areas on the southern and northern borders until Dec. 31, 2016. Enditem
