Spanish hotel chain aims to manage up to 150 hotels in China by 2020

Xinhua, March 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spanish company NH Hotel Group aims to manage between 120 and 150 hotels in China by 2020, economics newspaper Expansion reported on Thursday, citing NH sources.

The Spanish company will enter into the Chinese market thanks to its larger shareholder, the Haikou-based HNA Group, which has a 29.5-percent stake in NH Hotel Group.

CEO of the joint venture Markland Blaiklock said several flagship hotels from NH will be opened in the main Chinese cities so the brand becomes recognizable. Later, they will open hotels in other cities.

The first two hotels will be opened in the second half of 2016 in Hainan province, in Sanya and Haikou.

The company expects to sign several contracts in 2016 in order to manage from 10 to 20 hotels.

NH Hotel Group CEO Federico Gonzalez Tejera, said "it is a great challenge, and a great satisfaction to be in one of the biggest countries in the world. We want to become a familiar brand for the Chinese market so that Chinese citizens search our hotels in the places they go."

NH will be in charge of management while the hotel properties will belong to HNA or others. The Spanish company has already started managing some HNA hotels, such as some of the brand Tangla. Endit
