Bill requiring appointment of state consultative figure submitted to Myanmar parliament

Xinhua, March 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

A bill calling for the appointment of a state consultative figure was submitted to the House of Nationalities (Upper House) of Myanmar Thursday, parliament sources said.

The bill, presented by an MP of the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD), was accepted by the house for debate, which is expected to last for a week.

The bill is expected to pave the way for the appointment of Aung San Suu Kyi as a consultative figure to the state.

Aung San Suu Kyi, NLD chairperson, was appointed on Wednesday as Myanmar's new foreign minister, concurrently holding three other portfolios -- minister of President Office, minister of education and minister of electric power and energy. Endit
