Kaka wants Brazil recall for Copa America

Xinhua, March 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Former Real Madrid and AC Milan playmaker Kaka has expressed his desire to return to Brazil's national team for the Copa America in June.

Kaka missed the Selecao's World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Paraguay in the past week - both of which ended in 2-2 draws - due to a thigh injury.

But his is back in full training and is expected to make his 2016 debut for Orlando City in their MLS clash with Portland Timbers on Sunday.

"In my last two matches for the national team I sat on the bench and didn't play," Kaka told Cadena Cope.

"The Copa America squad will be announced in May and let's see if (Brazil manager) Dunga calls me up. I don't want to be included just to provide experience. I want to add quality on the pitch, always respecting the decision of the manager.

"I spoke with (Brazil's coaching staff) before the injury and they said that I was in their plans. I don't know who will be called up but I'd like to play because it's going to be in the United States."

The centenary edition of the Copa America will be played from June 3 to 26.

Kaka, who will turn 34 on April 22, scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists in his first season for Orlando City last year.

He has been capped 91 times for Brazil and was part of the Selecao squad that won the 2002 World Cup. Endit
