India to seal border with Bangladesh in state of Assam to stop infiltration

Xinhua, March 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

India said Wednesday that it would seal the border with Bangladesh in the northeastern state of Assam in a bid to stop infiltration.

Assam shares only 263 km of the 4096-km border between India and Bangladesh.

Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that he had visited the India-Bangladesh border a couple of months back and held "talks with the Bangladesh government".

"Intruders have been continuously entering India since the day Bangladesh was created. They are coming to India through the Indo-Bangladesh border," Singh said at a rally in poll-bound Assam.

"We just need some time and we will seal the Indo-Bangladesh border completely so that no Bangladesh intruder can come in."

Singh said in January that construction of the barbed-wire fence along the Assam stretch of the border would be completed by the end of this year. Endit
