Myanmar's new government Wednesday formed an 11-member national defense and security council with new president U Htin Kyaw as its chairman, according to an announcement of the President's Office signed by President U Htin Kyaw.

Under the constitution, the national defense and security council includes two vice presidents U Myint Swe and U Henry Van Thio, speakers of the two houses U Mann Win Khaing Than and U Win Myint, Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing and his deputy Vice Senior-General Soe Win, and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi.

Other members are from the military, including Home Minister Lt. Gen. Kyaw Swe, Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Sein Win and Minister of Border Affairs Lt. Gen. Ye Aung.

The formation of the council came hours after President U Htin Kyaw's cabinet was sworn in on Wednesday. Endit
