Tokyo stocks extend losses in morning after Yellen's dovish speech

Xinhua, March 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks extended losses Wednesday morning as the yen's appreciation after U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen's dovish remarks on the pace of rate hikes sent exporters lower and compounded a dour market mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 56.52 points, or 0.33 percent, from Tuesday to 17,047.01.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 5.32 points, or 0.39 percent, to 1,372.28.

Notable decliners by the morning break comprised marine transportation, mining and nonferrous metal-linked stocks. Endit
