Man charged with fake bomb threat near Warsaw

Polish prosecutors said Tuesday a 28-year-old man has been charged with making a hoax bomb threat at an airport near Warsaw.

The bomb threat, occurred late Sunday and affected Warsaw's Modlin Airport, which is to the north of the capital and serves budget airlines. Around 800 people were evacuated and a few flights were diverted.

Police officials said that police traced the hoax call to a party attended by 21 people, all of whom were drunk. Since nobody admitted to making the call, police detained them all.

Iwona Jurkiewicz, the spokeswoman for the Polish police said that almost all of the detainees have now been released, except "one of them is still in custody, as the police has suspicions that he was the one who made the call."

If found guilty, the man can face a prison sentence of up to eight years and can be also sentenced to cover the financial costs of the security operation at the airport on Sunday. Endit
