Roundup: Violent incidents claim lives of 3 civilians, wound 10 others in Afghanistan

Xinhua, March 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Violent incidents obviously conducted by anti-government militants claimed the lives of three civilians and injured 10 others in the conflict-ridden Afghanistan on Tuesday.

A bomb blast killed two passersby civilians in capital city Kabul and injured seven others.

The blast occurred Tuesday afternoon in a residential area killing two people including a woman, a police official said but declined to be identified.

"The obvious target of the blast was Raffiullah Gul Afghan, a former member of Mushrano Jirga or Upper House of Afghan parliament, but he was inside his house when the blast took place," the official told Xinhua.

He added those killed included a teenage boy and a woman passerby and three bodyguards of Gul Afghan were among those injured in the blast.

In a related violent incident, a district education official was shot dead and three others wounded as unknown armed men opened fire Tuesday morning in the northern Balkh province, an official said.

"Noorullah Noori, head of education department of Dawlat Abad district, was martyred and three district education officials wounded after unknown gunmen riding a motorbike opened fire on them in Deh Naw village of the district today morning," district governor Amir Shah told Xinhua.

Civilians often bear the brunt of war in the war-torn Afghanistan as more than 3,540 civilians had been killed and over 7,450 others injured in violent incidents and conflicts in the country last year, according to a report released by the UN mission in Afghanistan in February. Enditem
