NGO rejoices after Burundi's attorney general lifts suspension

Xinhua, March 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Burundian organization advocating change of mentalities (PARCEM) Monday rejoiced after the attorney general lifted the measure of suspending the nongovernmental organization.

"We are highly satisfied because this is a rare opportunity for us to resume our activities. We are glad because we are going to re-contribute to the construction of the country," said Faustin Ndikumana, chairman of the Burundian organization advocating change of mentalities (PARCEM).

Accounts of PARCEM that were frozen were also reopened.

On March 25, Burundian Attorney General Valentin Bagorikunda lifted the measure of suspending two local nongovernmental organizations - the Burundian organization advocating change of mentalities (PARCEM) and the Burundian Catholic Lawyers' Association (AJCB).

The PARCEM and the AJCB are among dozens of local nongovernmental that were suspended after the attorney general accused them of being behind the organization of protests against the third term bid of Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza in April 2015. Endit
