India says its national arrested in Pakistan not spy

Xinhua, March 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

India has said that one of its nationals reportedly arrested in Pakistan is not a spy but a former Navy personnel "who has no link with the government".

"The individual has no link with the government since his premature retirement from the Indian Navy," the Indian External Affairs Ministry said in a statement Friday.

Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador to Pakistan, Gautam Bambawale, was summoned by Islamabad that alleged the arrested Indian is an agent of the Research and Analysis Wing, India's main foreign spy agency.

Pakistan has even claimed that the arrested Indian, identified as Kulbushan Jadev, had been the mastermind behind terror attacks in Karachi and unrest in Balochistan.

Jadev was reportedly arrested by Pakistani security forces during a raid in Balochistan on Thursday and India is said to have sought consular access. Enditem
