Israel reverses decision to close embassy in Belarus

Xinhua, March 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

The embassy of Israel will continue working in Minsk as usual, the Belarusian foreign ministry said on Friday.

"Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially notified the Belarusian side that the Embassy of the State of Israel in Minsk will stay open and will continue operating as usual," Dmitry Mironchik, press secretary of Belarusian foreign ministry.

The official stressed this step made by Israel is a reason to return to the matter of Belarusian diplomatic presence in Israel.

The official note sent by Israel underlines "the significance the State of Israel attaches to the presence of the Israeli diplomatic mission in Minsk bearing in mind the strong relations between Israel and Belarus," Mironchik said.

Israel announced the closure of its embassy in Belarus and four other foreign missions in January as part of its budget-saving measure.
