Zambia invites bids for fuel supply

Xinhua, March 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Zambian government has invited bids for the supply of finished products to help the southern African nation deal with a fuel crisis, according to an official notice publicized Friday.

Last month, the government single sourced Independent Petroleum Group (IPG) of Kuwait for the supply of petroleum products to replace Swiss based Gunvor whose contract was terminated after the firm allegedly supplied contaminated crude oil on two occasions.

According to a notice from the Ministry of Energy and Water Development published in the local media, the government is seeking to procure 650,000 cubic meters of diesel and 330,000 cubic meters of unleaded petrol through international and open bidding process.

The government has since invited sealed bids from eligible and reputable organizations for the supply and delivery of finished petroleum products, according to the notice.

Some parts of Zambia are currently facing a fuel shortage, a move that forced the government to allow Oil Marketing Companies to start importing refined fuel into the country to ease the crisis.

The government also has a contract with Dalbit International Limited of Kenya for the supply of finished petroleum products. Endit
