Tokyo shares open higher on weaker yen

Tokyo shares opened slightly higher on Friday on a weaker yen and overnight gains in the U.S. stocks market.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 59.31 points, or 0.35 percent, from Thursday to 16,951.64.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 4.28 points, or 0.32 percent, to 1,358.89. Endit
