Zambia trainer rues missed opportunities in Africa Cup qualifier match

Xinhua, March 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Head coach of the Zambia national soccer team George Lwandamina on Thursday said he was disappointed that his players failed to utilize the opportunities during an Africa Cup qualifier match against Congo Brazzaville on Wednesday evening.

The Chipolopolo were held to a 1-1 draw by Congo Brazzaville during a Group E 2017 Africa Cup qualifier match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola city in the Copperbelt Province.

The 2012 Africa Cup winners missed a myriad of scoring opportunities especially in the first half.

Striker Winstone Kalengo put Zambia ahead with a powerful shot on 59th minute but Congo leveled through Jordan Massengo in the 75th minute.

"We cannot be happy with a draw because picking a point was not our objective. We are not in an easy group but we are doing our best to make the country proud. Sometimes playing at home puts a lot of pressure on the players but if they can maintain level when we go to Congo we can put away the created chances," he told the Football Association of Zambia website.

He attributed the failure to utilize opportunities created on the fact that some players joined camp a few hours before kick-off. Endit
