UN chief in Lebanon on visit expected to focus on Syrian refugees

Xinhua, March 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived here Thursday on a two-day visit to Lebanon that is expected to focus on Syrian refugees, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Ban is scheduled to meet Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Tammam Salam and a number of other officials, NNA said.

Lebanon has been without a president for almost two years amid a long-running political deadlock.

The local Annahar daily reported that Prime Minister Salam will reiterate during his meeting with Ban Lebanon's rejection to proposed naturalization of Syrian refugees in the country.

According to the United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees, Lebanon hosts more than 1.1 million Syrian refugees. Endit
