Two Palestinians killed, Israeli soldier injured in Hebron stabbing attack

Xinhua, March 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Two Palestinian attackers were killed and an Israeli soldier was lightly wounded in a stabbing attack in Hebron in the West Bank on Thursday morning, the Israeli army said.

The two Palestinian assailants stabbed an Israeli soldier in a military post in Hebron, an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said in a statement.

Soldiers at the scene responded and fired at the two attackers, resulting in their deaths, the IDF spokesperson added.

This is the latest attack in a wave of violence that had been taking place in the area since October.

Twenty-eight Israelis have been killed in the past six months in stabbing, shooting and car-ramming attacks. More than 180 Palestinians were killed during this period, some in clashes with Israeli security forces during protests, while others gunned down after trying to carry out attacks.

Israeli leaders accuse the Palestinian Authority of inciting violence, whereas the Palestinians say the violence is the result of frustration over 49 years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, where the Palestinians wish to establish an independent state. Endit
