Xinhua, March 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Eight persons were killed and eight others wounded in a traffic accident in Afghanistan's northern province of Balkh on Thursday, police said.

"Three sedan were involved in the crash which occurred along a road in Robat locality, Chimtal district at around 10:30 a.m. local time," Mohammad Zahir, the acting district police chief, told Xinhua.

The bodies along the injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital, he added.

The road connects the neighboring Zari district to the provincial capital of Mazar-i-Sharif city. At the time of accident, the weather was foggy in the area, according to the official.

The traffic police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The Afghan officials blamed reckless driving for the traffic incidents, saying reckless driving on congested roads and highways is the main cause of road accidents in the country. Enditem
