Brazil suffers Neymar injury scare

Xinhua, March 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

Brazil received a scare ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Uruguay when captain Neymar was taken to hospital on Wednesday with a suspected groin injury.

The Barcelona star was later released and is expected to take his place in Brazil's starting lineup at Recife's Pernambuco Arena on Friday.

"Neymar underwent an exam which showed no sign of injury," Brazil's football confederation said in a brief statement.

No further details were given about the injury.

But local media reported that the 24-year-old complained of a right groin problem during Brazil's training session in Teresopolis, near Rio de Janeiro, on Wednesday.

Brazil are currently third in the South American zone's World Cup qualifying standings with seven points from four matches. Ecuador lead with 12 points, three points ahead of second-placed Uruguay. Endit
