Philippines eyes seven more PPP projects until June

Xinhua, March 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Philippine government is determined to award seven more public-private partnership (PPP) projects before President Benigno S. Aquino III steps down from office by middle of this year, a senior government official said Tuesday.

The PPP projects, which will be bidden out include the regional prison project of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and five regional airport and Davao seaport projects by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), said PPP Center Executive Director Andre Palacios.

"The DOJ and DOTC have worked hard to bring the procurement process very close to completion. The PPP Center is ready to help the DOJ and DOTC make the final push to complete the process by June 30," he said.

The bid submission for seven projects was earlier postponed.

Aquino's six-year term will expire on June 30.

PPP projects are not covered by the election ban, which will last from March 25 to May 8 of this year. The Philippines is set to hold national and local elections on May 9.

At least 12 PPP projects were awarded, some of them already completed, under the Aquino administration. Endit
