Benin's president-elect to tackle constitutional reform, domestic debt

Xinhua, March 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Benin's President-elect Patrice Talon announced here Monday the need for major national reforms as well as solving the country's growing domestic debt as top priorities of his five year mandate.

"Within the next few days, we are going to cope with major projects of our program of action, particularly constitutional and administrative reforms," said Talon, adding that his government is determined to find a solution to the over 300 billion CFA Francs of domestic debt left by the outgoing government.

Meeting with the press on Monday, Talon expressed his determination to create a climate of confidence between the new authorities of Benin and the country's financial partners.

Patrice Talon, a cotton tycoon, won 65.39 percent of the vote, defeating his challenger, outgoing Prime Minister Lionel Zinsou, who obtained 34.61 percent.

After the Constitutional court's validation of the results, Patrice Talon will succeed Yayi Boni whose mandate expires on April 6 after two terms in office. Endi
