UN chief names his envoy on South-South Cooperation

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday announced the designation of Jorge Chediek of Argentina as his Envoy on South-South Cooperation.

Since October 2015, Chediek has been the director of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation leading system-wide promotion and coordination of South-South Cooperation for development, said Farhan Haq, the deputy UN spokesman, at a daily news briefing here.

Prior to that, Chediek served as United Nations Development Programme's resident representative in Brazil from 2010 to 2015.

South-South Cooperation is a term historically used by policymakers and academics to describe the exchange of resources, technology, and knowledge between developing countries, also known as countries of the global South. Endit
