Cambodia, Japan exchange views on Korean Peninsula issue

Xinhua, March 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and visiting Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Masakazu Hamachi on Monday exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, a spokesman said.

Hor Namhong said Cambodia was concerned over the recent nuclear and missile tests conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), according to Chum Sounry, a spokesman for the Cambodian ministry of foreign affairs.

"Cambodia has urged the DPRK to avoid any action that could escalate tensions or damage mutual trust in the Korean Peninsula," the spokesman quoted Namhong as saying to Hamachi.

Namhong, who is also a deputy prime minister, said Cambodia wished to see the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue to be solved through peaceful negotiations without any use of force or threat.

He also called upon the DPRK to comply with all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and its international obligation and commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Enditem
