Defending champion misses FIFA Interactive WC

Xinhua, March 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Defending champion Abdulaziz Alshehri failed to attend the draw of the 2016 FIFA Interactive World Cup Grand Final (FIWC) here due to the visa problem on Sunday.

Alshehri is among several players who can not make the trip on the last minute when 32 gamers from all around the world are ready to compete for the virtual championship of football of the year.

"It's sad that Abdulaziz can not attend the tournament. He's a very hard player," said 2014 FIWC winner August Rosenmeier of Denmark.

The tournament runs from March 21-22 when players were drawn into eight groups. Top two players of each group advance into the knock-out round and the final winner will emerge on Tuesday's night.

Starting from 2010, the event was held every year with the winner pocketing 20,000 U.S. dollars and a trip to FIFA Ballon d'Or, the annual award given to the best male footballer of the year.

These players will play SPORTS FIFA 16 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One to decide the ultimate winner. Endi
