Vietnam wins first athletics berths to Olympics

Nguyen Thanh Ngung on Sunday surprisingly finished first at the 20km event of the Asian Race Walking Championships, helping Vietnam secure the first athletics berth to Rio Olympics.

The Vietnamese walker clocked one hour, 23 minutes and 29 seconds in Japan, beating the Olympic standard of 1:24:00.

To date, Vietnam has won eight berths to the 2016 Olympics, including three in weightlifting, two shooting, one swimming berth, one wrestling and one walk racing. Endit
