Israel looks into whether Istanbul attack targets Israelis: PM

Xinhua, March 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Israel is looking into whether Saturday's suicide bombing attack in Istanbul targeted Israelis, Prime Minister Benjamin said.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Saturdays that investigation is continuing over a suicide bombing attack in central Istanbul that killed three Israelis and one Iranian.

Netanyahu said he does not yet have any affirmation that the attack was premeditated against Israelis, but said Israeli and Turkish authorities are cooperating in looking into the circumstances of the attack.

He also said there is "preliminary information" that the attack was executed by the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

Israel has ordered an emergency situation, saying 11 Israelis were injured in the attack on Saturday, four of them in serious condition. A group of Israeli tourists taking part in an organized tour were at the scene of the attack in Istanbul, according to Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Two Israeli planes from the Defense Forces and the emergency services have left for Istanbul to bring back the wounded Israelis, according to Netanyahu. The premier said he had also instructed to issue a travel advisory cautioning against Israelis' travels to Turkey, and ordered to boost the personnel at the Israeli consulate in Ankara.

Israel fears attacks on its citizens abroad and embassies by Hezbollah, the Shiite militant organization from Lebanon, and by Iran and its proxies in the region. Endit
