AU appoints new officials for DRC, counter-terrorism tasks

The African Union (AU) has appointed officials to different positions, according to AU statements on Saturday.

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of the AU Commission, has appointed Abdou Abarry, a diplomat from Niger, as her Special Representative and Head of the AU Office in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In another statement, the pan-African bloc announced that it has appointed Lieutenant Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey of Ghana as Special Representative in charge of Counter-Terrorism Cooperation and Director of African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT).

In his capacity as Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Gbevlo-Lartey will coordinate continental efforts aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the relevant AU instruments in the prevention and combating of terrorism, including mobilization of the international community in support of Africa's efforts in the area.
