David Alaba extends contract with Bayern Munich

Xinhua, March 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bayern Munich's David Alaba has extended his current contract ahead of schedule, the German giants confirmed in an official statement on Friday.

The Austrian international, whose contract was stipulated until June 2018, added another three years to stay with the "Bavarians" until 2021.

"David Alaba is a home-grown Bayern talent. We are therefore pleased that he extended his contract until 2021. He will be one of the teams cornerstones in the coming years," Bayern's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

The defender joined Bayern in 2008 as a youth player from Austria Wien. He quickly made a breakthrough into the first team and provided nine goals in 122 Bundesliga appearances.

"I am proud that I will continue to play here. At Bayern I grew up and experienced great moments. We all are hungry for more titles," Alaba said.

The 23-year-old defender is since 2009 part of Austria's national team where he scored eleven goals in 42 caps.

Bayer Munich sit atop of the Bundesliga standings with a five-point advantage to runner-up Dorrtmund. Endit
