1st LD Writethru: Paris terror suspect Abdeslam's fingerprints found at raided Brussels apartment

Xinhua, March 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Fingerprints belonging to the Paris terror attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam have been found by investigators at a property in Brussels raided by police on March 15, Belgian media reported on Friday.

Belgian state broadcaster RTBF says Abdeslam might have been in the apartment, on the Rue de Dries in Forest, and escaped during the police raid, in which one suspect was shot dead and four police officers injured in a shootout.

According to L'Avenir newspaper, the Belgian federal prosecutor has confirmed the discovery of Abdeslam's fingerprints, but does not wish to make any further information public at this stage.

His DNA was also found at an apartment in the Brussels district of Schaerbeek earlier this year, believed to have been used as his hideout following the Nov. 13 attacks on the French capital.

L'Avenir added that both properties had been rented under fake names.

RTBF said it was "likely" that Abdeslam was one of the two suspects who managed to escape the scene of Tuesday's raid during the shootout with police. Endit
