An official of Cote d'Ivoire's state broadcaster, RTI, was sacked on Thursday for airing no news reports of Sunday's deadly attack in Grand-Bassam town even "hours" after the terror act took place.
RTI information director Lacine Kone was accused of "disastrous handling" of the coverage of the attack in which gunmen killed at least 19 people -- 16 civilians and three soldiers.
The state television has been strongly criticized for having continued to broadcast a local football match during the first hours of the Grand-Bassam attack.
Al-Qaida in Islamic Maghreb has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Three gunmen were killed by security forces in the attack and the country has tightened security.
Grand-Bassam, a UNESCO World Heritage site some 30 km southeast of the commercial capital Abidjan, is popular with both locals and foreigners. Endit
