Messi: humility is the secret of our success

Xinhua, March 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

FC Barcelona striker Leo Messi gave away part of the secret of his and his side's success in declarations printed in Spanish sports paper, Diario AS on Friday.

Messi and teammates Luis Suarez and Neymar have netted an incredible 106 goals between them this season as Barca lead the Spanish BBVA Primera Liga while reaching the final of the Spanish Cup and the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

However, Messi said his side's success was down to more than the form of its attacking trident.

"I don't think Barca is just the three in attack. We have a very big squad and are much more than just three players," he said.

"There are players here who have won everything in their careers and who carry on playing as if they have never won anything," he said, highlighting the humility of companions such as Andres Iniesta.

"The important thing is the humility in the dressing room, that allows the players to do the work every day out on the training ground," considered the striker.

Barcelona recently beat the Spanish record of 34 games without defeat and how now gone 38 matches since they were last beaten.

"I don't really think that we bear that in mind. We don't talk about it and it doesn't bother us. We think about winning titles, if that gives us a record, then that's good, but it is no good holding a record if you don't win any titles," he explained.

Barca hold an 8-point lead over Atletico Madrid in the league, "it is close, but we are not ruling anyone out and we know that whoever we play in quarter-finals of the Champions League will be difficult," concluded Messi. Endi
