German bank grants 42 million euros for Tirana-Pristina energy line

Xinhua, March 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

German state-owned development bank KfW will provide 42 million euros in loan to support the construction of a power transmission line linking Tirana and Pristina, Albanian media reported Friday.

The loan agreement was signed by the Transmission System Operator and envisages the construction of a 400 kilovolt transmission line between Albania and Kosovo. The deadline or the loan repayment is 8 years beginning from June 30 this year.

The Tirana-Pristina interconnection line is of strategic importance, through which Albania, as a country which imports electricity, could meet its demand and Kosovo could make optimal use of its energy resources.

Construction of the line will also improve cost-efficiency and electricity supply security in Albania and contribute to an integrated energy market in Southeast Europe. Endi
