Kenya partners with World Bank to survey MSEs number

The Kenyan government and the World Bank will carry out a national survey meant to establish the number of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in the country.

The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) will undertake the exercise, with help from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and World Bank beginning next week.

KNBS CEO Patrick Mwangi said the aim was to get the data that would help the government plan and organize its engagement with the micro enterprises in the country.

"We will do this survey in a digital framework so as to know the number of Micro and Small enterprises (MSE's) that exist as well as advising on the areas that need assistance," he said.

According to him, the only data that they are using is based on a 1999 census, adding that it did not have the details needed to ensure the economic transformation of MSEs is realized.

"It is our mandate as an authority to consolidate data based on sex, geographical and other categories, and this will help us form policy guidelines and directions to be used by government," Mwangi said.

He also called on Kenyans in the sector to accord the enumerators who will visit their areas the necessary support. Enditem
