EU agreement must create precise mechanisms to control migration flows: Bulgarian FM

Xinhua, March 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ahead of the European Union EU-Turkey summit, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov here on Thursday said any EU agreement to tackle the migration crisis should focus on the control of external borders, and create clear, precise mechanisms to control migration flows.

Mitov reiterated the position of his country that the EU-Turkey agreement should treat equally all of the external EU borders with Turkey, including the land borders between Turkey and Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey, and the Black Sea.

Meanwhile, the implementation of the readmission agreement between the EU and Turkey should start as soon as possible, he added.

Mitov said the migrant crisis ultimately was about a broader, important debate on the foreign policy of the EU, its presence beyond its borders, and "about the political, institutional and financial commitment that we have." Endit
