Jordan to install surveillance cameras at Al Aqsa Mosque yards

Xinhua, March 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan on Wednesday said it will install surveillance cameras at the yards of Al Aqsa Mosque, which will help monitor any raids by Israeli settlers, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

Jordan's Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said the cameras to be installed will help monitor raids of the mosque's yards and put an end to these violations.

"These cameras will help monitor and report any violations or raids by radical Israelis and Israelis forces and document violations they commit at the mosque's yards," said the minister.

The site repeatedly witnesses clashes between Palestinian worshipers and Israelis raiding the yards of the mosque.

The minister also stressed that Jordan will continue to defend the holy sites in the city.

Jordan, which signed a peace deal with Israel in 1994, oversees the Islamic and Christian holy sites in east Jerusalem, which is envisaged as the future capital of the Palestinian state. Endit
