IMF willing to support Vietnam in realizing development goals: IMF chief

Xinhua, March 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) always wishes to boost extensive and effective cooperation with Vietnam as well as to support Vietnam in realizing its development goals, said IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde on Wednesday.

Lagarde made the remark while meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Wednesday, reported the Vietnamese government's e-Portal.

In addition to financial assistance, IMF is heading to provide Vietnam with technical support and training, said the IMF official.

Lagarde said that Vietnam needs to further improve labor productivity and competitiveness of its firms so that the whole economy can have more room for growth.

Dung, for his part, said at the meeting that, with effective support of the international community, Vietnam is striving to ensure stable macro-economy, and have an average economic expansion of 7 percent per year in the coming five years.

In order to achieve the goal, Vietnam is speeding up reforms, improving governance and strongly promoting democracy among others, the e-Portal quoted Dung as saying.

The Vietnamese prime minister expressed his hope that the country would continue to receive IMF's comments on the current situation and development trend of Vietnam's macro-economy.

On the same day, Lagarde also met with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Van Binh and Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung. Endit
